Norman Hendry Bunky Simmons, Jr., a native of Bogalusa, LA and a resident of Baton Rouge, LA, passed away on Wednesday, November 28, 2022. He was a kind, gracious, hard-working man who loved God, his family, his church, his friends, and his country. He was a proud member of the Navy from 1955 to 1963. Bunky was a member of Lanier Baptist Church and he thoroughly enjoyed being at LBC with his brothers and sisters in Christ. His greatest joy was being with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Billie Pierce Simmons, three wonderful sons; Norman (Scooter) Simmons III, Craig Arlon Simmons, and Kirk Pierce Simmons; three beautiful daughters-in-law; Davelyn Perkins Simmons, Annette Haigler Simmons, and Wanda Kent Simmons. His grandchildren: Sharon, Matt, Stephen, Samantha, Michael, Ashley, Heather, Jacob, Jessee, Tyler, Hannah, Brett, Victoria, Josh, Nicole, and Daniel. His great grandchildren: Connie, Norman, Samuel, Willow Jane, Ebenezer, Ella, Clara, Kenzy, Harper, Kent, and Ava. His siblings: Glen and Priscilla Simmons, Helen and Jim Lackore, Eugenia and Don Kozan, and numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved very much. Bunky was known for his love of “anything to do with trains.” He designed and built railroad track and bridges and performed track maintenance for commercial use for more than 45 years. Bunky was always willing to help others in any way he could. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. We are very grateful for our hospice nurse Kerri. Her care and kindness to Bunky and the entire family was incredible. Services will be held at Lanier Baptist Church on December 2, 2022 beginning with visitation at noon and the service at 2:00 PM. A graveside service will be held at Greenoaks at 3:00 PM
