Mrs. Evelyn Mary Alombro Arbo went to be with her Lord and Savior on July 22, 2022. She was born in New Orleans on May 15, 1947, to the late Raymond Alombro and the late Helen Bernice Pates Alombro. After graduating from Alcee Fortier High School in 1967, she devoted her life to being a wife, mother, and grandmother. She was profoundly successful at being all three. She was married to John A. Arbo II, for fifty-five years, having just celebrated this milestone wedding anniversary on March 31. They were each other’s soul mate and loved each other as deeply in year fifty-five as they did when they first met; always referring to each other with terms of endearment, giving loving glances across the room, and sweetly holding hands. The love and respect they had for each other was evident to everyone who knew them. She was an outstanding mother to her only child, Christine Michelle Arbo Peck, whom she devoted her life to and taught her everything she knows today about being a courageous, compassionate, gracious, and faithful woman; how to be a good friend; and most importantly, how to be an exemplary mother. And, she was the most loving and proud grandmother to Abigail Olivia Peck and Owen Alexander Peck. She spent the first two years of their lives lovingly caring for them at their home so they would not have to go to daycare as infants. As they grew, she never missed a birthday party, trick-or-treat, school performance, school or church fair, recital, award ceremony, soccer or baseball game, grandparent’s day, or any other opportunity to support and encourage them. She loved her grandchildren with all of her heart. She loved and believed in God. She loved to cook, watch football, host sleep-overs, game nights, backyard parties, holiday gatherings, Christmas mornings, Easter egg hunts, beach vacations, road trips, and so much more. The love that she shared and the memories she made with her family are a most fitting legacy for such a remarkable woman. Her family will mourn privately and celebrate her life eternally. The family encourages those who wish to pay respect to do so by being kind, telling the people who are important to you that you love them, play games, laugh, dance, be silly, make good memories with your friends and family, and fill your heart with love. “And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.” 1 Corinthians 13:13.
My sister and I were so fortunate to grow up with Evelyn, John, and Christine. Evelyn was our favorite babysitter because she was the the most fun! We always laughed and played silly games, played records, and had the time of our lives with Evelyn. I think she took us to Ponchartrain Beach one hundred times and we rode every ride, except the scary ones, Evelyn did not like scary! At family gatherings we played cards, told stories, and ate too much. Evelyn was a phenomenal storyteller, whether she was telling a story about someone’s antics or telling a story that had us laughing with her about her own antics, Evelyn was the best. Evelyn embodied true kindness, every time she smiled at you, you felt loved. She was the heart of the family. She will always be the heart of our family. We love you Evelyn.
With love always,
Jeanne Claire
